Elon Musk’s Next Move: Twitter to Launch New Feature to Compete with LinkedIn

Written by Sanjay Kumar

News Highlights

  • Twitter’s new feature aims to rival LinkedIn and Indeed by allowing verified organizations to tap into its 528 million users to scout for top talent.
  • Verified organizations can feature up to 5 jobs on their Twitter profile, providing a convenient Application Tracking System for swift job postings.
  • Elon Musk’s vision for Twitter 2.0 involves transforming it into an ‘everything app,’ akin to China’s WeChat, encompassing diverse functionalities like payments, messaging, and social networking.

Twitter

Social media company

  • CEO: Linda Yaccarino (5 Jun 2023)
  • Founded: 21 March 2006, San Francisco, California, United States
  • Founders: Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone, Noah Glass
  • Headquarters: San Francisco, California, United States
  • Subsidiaries: Twitter Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd., Twitter France SAS, MORE

Twitter, the social media giant, is gearing up to challenge LinkedIn and Indeed by introducing a new feature. This upcoming addition will empower verified organizations to scout for fresh talent among its massive user base of 528 million.

The new feature came to light through the keen eye of app researcher NimaOwji, who shared a screenshot of the proposed functionality last Thursday. According to Owji’s post, Twitter is positioning this feature as a means for companies to attract top-notch talent for their vacant positions.

#Twitter will let verified organizations import all of their jobs to Twitter by connecting a supported ATS or XML feed! 🚀

The screenshot revealed that Twitter hiring will be a complimentary feature for verified organizations, enabling them to post up to 5 job openings on their company profile. Any user who visits the company’s Twitter profile will be able to view these featured jobs. Additionally, these organizations will be provided with a supported Application Tracking System or XML, streamlining the process of adding jobs to Twitter within minutes.

Interestingly, Elon Musk had subtly hinted at the possibility of a jobs feature being added to Twitter in a response to a post back in May. Moreover, in the same month, Musk-led Twitter 2.0 made its inaugural acquisition, acquiring the job-matching tech startup Laskie.

The question arises, why is the jobs feature significant for Twitter 2.0? While some may initially perceive it as an attempt to rival LinkedIn, it is, in fact, a part of Elon Musk’s broader vision to create an ‘everything app.’ This ambitious concept draws inspiration from China’s WeChat, seeking to encompass multiple functionalities like payments, messaging, and social networking within a single application.

It’s worth noting that Elon Musk’s grand plan for Twitter took shape when he acquired the platform for a whopping $44 billion in October of the previous year. He had then announced that the company would act as an accelerator in the creation of X, the all-encompassing everything app.
